Xeomin is a relatively new product designed to smooth the lines that appear from aging and stress. It functions very similarly to Botox. The lines across your forehead (transverse forehead rhytids), between your brows (glabellar “frown” lines), and smile lines at the corners of your eyes and on your nose are actually the result of muscle movement beneath the skin and the steady passage of time.
As you make facial expressions throughout your normal day, your facial muscles contract, causing the overlying skin to wrinkle. This is quite apparent when most people frown, emphasizing the glabellar frown lines between your eyes. Over time this continual wrinkling of the muscles causes facial lines to become more pronounced.
Xeomin is a simple, nonsurgical, physician-administered injectable that can help improve, and in some cases help erase mild to moderate wrinkles. The treatment, which is performed in our office, consists of a few tiny injections and generally takes 10-15 minutes. After your procedure, patients are often able to see dramatic results the same day or within a few days. Results can last four months, although individual results vary. Our plastic surgeons will tailor your treatment to your goals. After your treatment, you can still smile, frown, and look surprised. It will not ‘change your look’ but rather enhance it. Usual results are a more youthful and rested appearance with the reduction of wrinkles and creases in the forehead and face.
Xeomin has no additives, just botulinum toxin type A. This may mean that there is less risk of the body developing antibodies against Xeomin than other available neurotoxins (although this has not been shown). The effects of Xeomin usually occur shortly after the procedure and results can last three to six months, making it comparable to Botox in terms of both onset and duration of action.
