Liposculpture is a relatively new term describing the artistic technique of liposuction. Liposuction involves selectively removing fat through small tubes. The technique of liposculpture uses liposuction to sculpt selective body areas and fat deposits to achieve a contoured and balanced appearance.
Liposuction removes fat deposits from beneath the skin using a hollow stainless steel tube (called a cannula) with the assistance of a powerful vacuum. This can be done either with the use of general anesthesia, with IV sedation, or totally by local anesthesia. This choice is based on the area to be addressed and made between you and your surgeon.
The procedure involves injecting tumescent solution (dilute local anesthesia) into the fat. This causes the targeted areas to become tumescent, or swollen and firm. Once the areas have been injected, your surgeon will then use very small cannulas to remove the fat deposits and sculpt your desired body area.
Liposuction can be performed on almost any area of the body, and is either performed as a procedure by itself, or in conjunction with other plastic surgery procedures. Some of the more popular areas that our patients have addressed are: the abdomen and flanks, love handles in men, inner thighs, outer thighs (saddle bag areas), buttocks, knees, upper arms, back, neck, face, and occasionally ankles. Smaller liposuction procedures can be performed in the office, while more extensive liposuction can be more safely performed in the operating room.

Like many people, you may have stubborn flab that’s resistant to exercise and dieting. Expending effort that gets you nowhere can be extremely frustrating. If you want to see real results, it’s time to consider an alternative: liposuction.
This popular fat removal procedure can be used to reduce fat in numerous areas of the body, such as the thighs, back, abdomen, arms, buttocks, chest, hips, face, and neck. Liposuction is very versatile, and it provides effective body contouring.
Our surgeons use the latest tumescent liposuction techniques. The procedure involves placing tumescent fluid within the fatty areas, which helps break up the fat and decrease discomfort and bruising.
Once the trouble areas have been numbed, small incisions are created, and tiny cannulas are inserted. These are thin tubes used to suck out the fat. The cannulas are used to fragment the thick fatty tissues into smaller pieces, and then suctioning of the broken-down fat takes place. The removal of the fat cells causes an overall reduction in size and better contour.
Results from liposuction will be visible following your procedure, however there will be some swelling and bruising in the treated areas. These areas will return to normal over the course of around five to eight weeks. A support garment should be worn for about six weeks to lessen the amount of swelling. Massaging the areas will help to avoid dimpling and hypersensitivity.
Any pain experienced during your liposuction recovery can be managed with the aid of pain medication recommended by your plastic surgeon. Do not use any NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs), since these can decrease your blood’s ability to clot, causing a greater risk of bleeding.
Typically, around 4 to 7 days off of work will be recommended for proper recovery. Do not engage in strenuous activities for around two weeks.
