Laser Skin Resurfacing
Lasers can also be used to create a controlled burn of the most superficial layers of skin and achieve a dramatic result in resurfacing skin. These ablative lasers resurface the skin which diminishes wrinkles, acne scars and other surface irregularities. They improve overall skin tone and texture.
Laser resurfacing offers greater control of the depth of the burn and more precision for use around delicate areas such as the lips and eyes. Lasers can also be used to treat the entire face, or in combination with face-lift procedures to produce a comprehensive rejuvenation. Laser skin resurfacing is a great option for people with significant skin damage from sun exposure, past smoking, or normal aging.
The procedure is generally performed as an outpatient procedure with IV sedation or anesthesia. Because the results are so profound, the treatments tend to take a bit longer and do require more recovery time than less ablative lasers.
Ablative lasers require real downtime in order for your skin to fully heal. Resurfacing an entire face may require four to six weeks of initial healing. In addition, this type of laser resurfacing requires that you avoid sun exposure afterwards.
